About the Founder

Dr. Lou LipschultzAfter developing Southland Eye Associates (formerly Family EyeCare Associates) into a successful eye care practice in the south suburbs of Chicago, Dr. Lipschultz found himself dedicating more and more time to the challenges of providing eye care for visually impaired persons. As a result, the Olympia Fields, Illinois practice rapidly grew into one of Chicago’s key resources for low vision care and devices.

Dr. Lipschultz also identified that patients and doctors had a need for easier access to low vision care. He then formed Vision Rehab, Inc. designed to own and operate low vision centers, provide management services for other eye care professionals, and to be a training venue for other doctors with an interest in providing low vision care..

Dr. Lipschultz graduated for Bloom High School in the south Chicago suburb of Chicago Heights, and attended Eastern Illinois University, majoring in chemical engineering. He graduated from the Illinois College of Optometry in 1986 and purchased the practice of Dr. Sol Rocke shortly after graduation. Family Eyecare Associates, pc grew over the years into three locations with seven optometrists and over twenty staff.

The success of Vision Rehab, Inc. led Dr. Lipschultz to accept the position of CEO of Pulse Data International, Inc of Atlanta in September 2000.  Pulse Data (now HumanWare) is a leading designer of video magnification and Braille technology.  During his tenyor with the company several mergers and acquisitions were completed, and the company was relocated to the San Francisco Bay area.

In late 2003 Dr. Lipschultz resigned from his position to found OcuSource.com, LLC, a low vision and blindness industry internet portal.  The expansive internet website strives to make resources available to individuals with vision impairment.  Manufacturers doctors, agencies, products and much more can be found on www.ocusource.com.

Dr. Lipschultz now splits his residence between Southern California and Chicago.  His wife, Dr. Susan Cotter, is a professor in the pediatric department of the Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton, and is on the staff of the Department of Ophthalmology of USC. Dr Lipschultz returns to Chicago monthly to see vision impaired patients.
